Why We Do It
Every day in Alabama one or more of our 6000+ foster children have birthdays that go unrecognized. In fact, many of them have NEVER celebrated a birthday!
Yes, it is sad to know these birthdays are not honored with presents, cakes or balloons. But, it is even more heart-breaking to realize, in many instances, the simple words “Happy Birthday” are never spoken to these precious children.
The Alabama Birthday Wish for Foster Children is committed to insuring this never happens again in our great state.
What is a birthday after all? It is a day when you are special and honored–something most of us take for granted.
Remember your childhood, waking up on your birthday and knowing the day would be awesome. There would be cake and ice cream and presents and hugs and everyone saying “happy birthday.” You never doubted that you were special and someone, everyone was glad you were born.
Our goal is to make sure every foster child in Alabama knows this extraordinary feeling. Will you help?
“Children are our future and we need to help them grow up with special childhood memories that promote good self-esteem and teach them how to treat others. I am extremely excited about the Alabama Birthday Wish for Foster Children project. A birthday is such an important day in the life of a child. Making that special day one of celebration and joy is a wonderful gift that I am sure will be cherished for years to come by each foster child.” - Nancy Buckner, Commissioner, Alabama Department of Human Resources
